8:46 pm - Interview with the Shack Shakers

So I'm lining up an interview right now with Col. JD of the Shack Shakers.

The interview will be a bit about 'Seven Signs' and their new album, Agri-Dustrial.

Was wondering if you eve had a question you'd want to ask the Col. 'bout his music or film?

Let me know and I'll do my best to ask should everything work out well.

1:24 am - Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Salt Lake City, September 29, 2009

The rest are here...

I was utterly charmed by Jay Munly. During the show, someone had left an empty beer bottle on the stage and he kicked it off. I picked it up so no one would step on it. He saw me and thought it was my beer, and went, grabbed his stein of beer and handed it to me.

I kept trying to give it back, but he was way into the show and didn't notice, so I took a couple of swigs. Finally, there was a lull, and I offered it back to him. He said, "No, I kicked yours over," and I said, "No, that wasn't mine, it was just somebody's empty," and he looked sad and said, "Oh," and took his beer back.

After the show, I pointed out to him that if I HAD left my beer on the stage, I'd deserve to have it kicked over.

I dunno... it was just so *sweet*.

Since we were just talking about murder ballads and such, I figured I'd upload The willow Tree Triptych by Rasputina. I remember some of you liking Rasputina, and if not, it's a pretty neat concept anyway.

Basically she took a traditional called The Willow Tree and recorded three different versions of it: one from America, one from England, and one from Ireland. It's really interesting to see how the writing style, tune, and entire story change depending on which country it originated from. Thought you might dig it.

Also feel free to discuss the fact that the American one is the most awesomely brutal, because what the hell.

11:21 am - Murder in the Red Barn

Alright Gothic Americana. I need to start this machine up again. I don't know how yet, maybe with dynamite.

But I'm supposed to be making my girlfriend a murder ballad compilation. And as everyone knows, the best murder ballads come from Americana.

So you should send me your favorites.

So far I have....

Billy Childish - The Ballad of Hollis Brown
Greg Graffin - Little Sadie
Johnny Cash - Delia's Gone
Neko Case - Poor Ellen Smith
Nick Cave - Knoxville Girl
Nick Cave w/ Kylie Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow
Ralph Stanley - Henry Lee
Ralph Stanley - Little Mathie Grove
Slim Cessna's Auto Club - This Is How We Do Things In The Country
Steve Earle - The Devil's Right Hand
Steve Earle w/ Del McCory Band - Carrie Brown
Tom Russell - Claude Dallas
Voltaire - Ex-Lover's Lover

Any help would be awesome. Any uploads would be more awesome.

I'll try to put this community back to former glory.

4:38 pm - An advert for my new, yet old group...

Having a hard time finding steampunk or dark cabaret bands?  I know I am.  For one, MySpace is a menace to me, as much as a joy.  Perhaps others have experienced my plight.

I would like to introduce you to steampunkmusic , my new group.  I created this group in order to keep up with the large advent of dark cabaret, steampunk, gypsy punk and countless other subgenres.   I would like it to clear up confusion on where to find steampunk music. If you are in a band of any genre like this, please add yourself to the friends list, so people can find you.

Feel free to join and post anything as long as it has to do with these genres of music.  I am pretty liberal with what you can post.

3:55 pm - Painted Saints

I had forgotten about the Painted Saints and recently listened to the first cd...then checked the myspace page...then ordered the latest cd "the bricks might breathe again"...

good god i can't get the thing out of my cd player...whichever one that happens to be. it reminds me of early Denver Gentlemen and early 16 Horsepower and maybe the Black Heart Procession. this is an amazing cd that i think anyone here would certainly appreciate.

1:34 pm - Izzy Cox, Americana Outlaw Murder Ballad Queen

Not sure if she's been posted about here before, but if you get a chance, you should really check out Izzy Cox from Austin. I just saw her twice on her recent two-month tour of the Southeast/East Coast/Midwest and was absolutely floored by her voice, songs, and character.

The title pretty much says it all: "Americana Outlaw Murder Ballad Queen". I am sure that sounds at least vaguely interesting to you since you're in this community, so I recommend highly that you check out her MySpace, get her music, and see her perform next time she's in your town!

6:09 pm - "...The Red Pirate of the Prairie..."

Last night, I went and saw Slim Cessna's Auto Club at the Record Bar in KCMO. They certainly delivered, and I was lucky enough to be right up front for the show. These pics are straight off my iPhone, but keep an eye out in the online communities, because there was at least one guy there with a pro camera getting some amazing shots of the guys.
Check out the whole set here on my Flickr.
